Pyewacket - Wing Advantage

Photos (c) Sailkarma
The advantage to having wings for the Transpac race is the ability to transfer the weight from one side of the boat to the other. Under the regatta rules for Transpac, you are allowed to stack sails on the weather side of the yacht. The wings also give you the ability to have different sheeting alignment for the spinnaker.
