Ken Read takes on Fastnet

The Fastnet Race has traditionally had a stellar contingent of Whitbread/Volvo sailors in its ranks and this year’s running of the biennial classic is no exception.
When the 300-strong fleet sets off on its 608-mile journey on Sunday (12 August), chief among the Volvo posse will be Ken Read the skipper of the PUMA Ocean Racing entry in the Volvo Ocean Race 2008-09.
Read will helm the 90-foot maxi Rambler. Two of Read’s trusted lieutenants will be Australia’s Chris Nicholson, whose heroics aboard movistar are well documented and fellow-Rhode Islander Jerry Kirby (Pirates of the Caribbean).
Other notables this time out include Guillermo Altadill (Ericsson), who will helm the Spanish entry Estrella Damm while Whitbread/Volvo and America’s Cup navigator, Andrew Cape (movistar) teams up with Alex Thompson on Hugo Boss. -
