Team Aqua Dubai Update

Here's a quick update of the past week from the guys on Team Aqua from Dubai, UAE. from Matt Cassidy: Last week we sailed in the Maktoum Cup, which is the Dubai IRC event. There were 31 boats total with 10 in Division 1. Two RC44's, Team Aqua and Team Omega, used this week as a tune-up for the coming Dubai Cup.

We haven't sailed together since the Gold Cup here in December, so this was a good way to blow the dust off and get used to sailing the boats again. Aqua and Omega ended up 4th and 5th respectively in Div. 1. It was a great week to work on boat speed with Russell and his Team, checking to see if we were still on pace with one of the top teams.

On saturday, we had a 4 hour boat handling session with lots of starts and short course W/L. Our team had a nice half day off on Sunday where some of the guys went snowboarding at the mall and others just relaxed by the pool. The boat and team are now ready for the Dubai Cup that starts today.

The match racing portion is today and tomorrow with the pro drivers taking the wheel and then the owners take over for the final three days of fleet racing wednesday thru friday. Some of the notable helmsman are Cameron Appleton, Russell Coutts, James Spithill, Sebastien Col, and Morten Henrikson. Cheers! - Matt Cassidy -Bowman Team Aqua
