XIII Roberto Trombini Challenge Trophy - Matchracing
James Spithill is the winner of the 13th edition of Roberto Trombini Challenge Trophy. The helm of Luna Rossa wins 3-0 against Italian Paolo Cian of Shosholoza; a memorable event because Spithill is the first skipper to win a third time and, according to the rules, he is awarded the Roberto Trombini Challenge Trophy. Paolo Cian has the satisfaction of reaching the finals of the Trombini event for the third consecutive year.
Really thrilling matches especially in the semifinals completed during the morning; Spithill, who started at 0-2 in favour of Philippe Presti did some master moves, first he forced his team mate from Luna Rossa to take a penalty in the first match, overtaking in the second when he won even with a penalty paid right of the lay line and with only one second advantage. The were equalling 2-2, Spithill continued his splendid display going through to the final with 3-2. The other semifinal was won by Paolo Cian 3-1 against Damien Iehl.
